Senate Bill 38, passed by the Utah Legislature and signed into law by Governor Huntsman in 2008, required the Division of Finance to create a website to ensure state and local government financial information is available to the public.
The division worked closely with the Department of Technology Services and Utah Interactive to develop a site that is both comprehensive and easy to use.
Transparent.utah.gov went live on May 15, 2009. Since then, 551 different public entities in Utah, including state and local governments, school districts, and special service districts, have posted to the website over 182 million records, which total more than $830 billion.
The Utah Transparency Advisory Board and the Division of Finance oversee the operations of the Utah Public Finance (Transparency) website.
